The Weather Systems Over The Country
The progress of Southwest Monsoon continues to remain slow over most parts of the country. Monsoon advancement along the West Coast has remained stalled for the last 11 days, while progress over East India has also been sluggish. However, weather conditions may become favourable for further advancement of the monsoon over eastern and western parts of the country around June 23 or 24.
At present, the seasonal trough at mean sea level extends from Punjab to Bihar across Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, supporting weather activity over northern parts of the country.
Meanwhile, a Western Disturbance is positioned as a trough in middle and upper tropospheric westerly winds, with its axis at 5.8 km above mean sea level, roughly along longitude 70°E and north of latitude 28°N.
A cyclonic circulation persists over Northwest Uttar Pradesh at around 3.1 km above mean sea level. Another cyclonic circulation is located over Gujarat and adjoining Southeast Rajasthan at 0.9 km above mean sea level.
Additionally, a trough is extending from Southeast Madhya Pradesh to the East-Central Arabian Sea across Madhya Maharashtra and Konkan at around 5.8 km above mean sea level.
Weather Activities During The Last 24 Hours
During the last 24 hours, light to moderate rain along with one or two heavy spells occurred over Coastal Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Gangetic West Bengal and Jharkhand.
Light to moderate rain was also recorded over many parts of Northeast India, East Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, East Gujarat, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Haryana, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh.
Light rainfall activity was observed over Saurashtra & Kutch, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
Forecast
During the next 24 hours, light to moderate rain accompanied by a few heavy spells is likely over Interior Tamil Nadu, Kerala, West Bengal and parts of Assam during the next 24 hours.
Light to moderate rain may also occur over Northeast India, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, the Western Himalayas, parts of Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan.
Isolated light rain activity is possible over Odisha, Gujarat and Konkan & Goa.
Dust storm and thunderstorm activity accompanied by rain may occur over parts of Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Delhi.
