Snowfall likely in Jammu and Kashmir; lull in South India

Tourists who avidly follow weather news and updates by Skymet are enjoying an icy vacation in Srinagar and Shimla. We have constantly been forecasting snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. It is again time for the hills to be covered in a white sheet of ice. “A strong weather system, called the Western Disturbance is affecting the hills of J&K and could bring a fresh spell of snowfall in the state tomorrow.

Last 48 hours have been uncomfortably dry and cold in Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh but the next few days could be consistently wet. With just a short break of about two days after the 5th of Feb, the hilly regions could again witness some rain and snow from a fresh system.

Due to snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir, weather in Delhi and the plains of North India could also turn wet and cold. Forecast indicates chances of isolated rain and partly cloudy sky in Delhi and Haryana tomorrow. Punjab too could witness some isolated rain. On the 4th of February, possibilities of rain will increase in Delhi, Haryana and Punjab.

While the day will continue to be bright and sunny in Delhi and North India, with maximums will settle between 21 and 23⁰C. Night will also be less cold with minimum settling between 8 and 10⁰C, touching 12⁰C day after.

In South India, the month of February will not witness much change in terms of weather. Days will continue to be dry and very warm. While coastal Karnataka will record maximums in the mid-thirties, patchy clouds in Tamil Nadu will fail to bring any rain.
