After a delay of over a week, Southwest Monsoon 2019 has finally made onset over Kerala on  June 8. As reiterated by Skymet Weather, all the required criteria had met on Friday itself, making conditions favorable for the arrival of the four month long Monsoon season over the Indian mainland.

The Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM) is currently passing through Latitude 11°N/ Longitude 60°E, Latitude 11°N/ Longitude 70°E, Amini Divi, Kochi, Madurai, Latitude 11°N/ Longitude 86°E, Latitude 16°N/ Longitude 91°E, and Latitude 20°N/ Longitude 94°E.

All credit goes to the the cyclonic circulation brewing in Southeast Arabian Sea, which is likely to induce a low pressure area over the same area during the next 24 hours. This system has been primarily responsible for aligning all the required features for bringing the Monsoon in Kerala.

June 6 and 7 had reported good rainfall over the enlisted 14 stations of Kerala, Lakshadweep Islands and Coastal Karnataka, fulling the criteria of at least 60% of the enlisted stations recording rainfall for two consecutive days to the tune of 2.5 mm each.
