Subdued rainfall activities over South Peninsula

Until now, South Peninsula has received good Monsoon rains. Between June 1 and July 17, South Peninsula has recorded 37% surplus rain. Telangana is large excess with 123% surplus rain followed by Tamil Nadu which is surplus by 47%.

Karnataka is surplus by 40%, Andhra Pradesh by 20%, Lakshadweep 11% and Andaman and Nicobar Islands is surplus by 6%. Kerala and Puducherry are in normal rain category, but Kerala is deficient by 15% whereas Puducherry is deficient by 11%.

Tamil Nadu is in rain shadow area but despite this, the state has recorded decent rainfall which is good for upcoming Crops. Monsoon trough remained active over West Coast of the country right from Maharashtra to Kerala leading to the excess rainfall.

Now, the monsoon Surge has weakened therefore coastal Karnataka and isolated pockets of Kerala may receive light to moderate rain with few heavy spells. But monsoon is expected to remain subdued over interior Peninsula particularly Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. Scattered light rain is possible over these States for next 4 to 5 days. Telangana will be an exception as the weather systems which develops over Bay of Bengal usually gives good rain to Telangana. Therefore, we expect occasional moderate showers to lash Northern districts of Telangana during next one week.

Overall surplus of monsoon rain is expected to Dip for south Peninsula in coming days.
