National capital is going through a horrifying 2nd half of monsoon season. The trail of barren and dehydrated landscape has run rather too long. Month of August remained exceptionally dry with hefty and record deficit of 82% rainfall. September so far is no different and incurred shortfall of over 90%, for the first 12 days of the month. Courtesy, few decent showers in July, season got saved from total decimation. Still, there is a seasonal shortfall of about 40% rainfall, between 01stJune and 12thSep.

Dying hopes for the capital city will possibly get resuscitated around mid-week, with relieving showers.  Chances of short duration light rain or patchy showers remain good for today and tomorrow. However, spread and intensity may enhance around mid week, on 14th & 15thSep.  Light fleeting and sporadic showers in some parts, may happen in the subsequent days  also, till the weekend.

Monsoon depression, which earlier moved over interior Odisha and South Chhattisgarh, is now lying over Southeast Madhya Pradesh, centered about 80km southwest of Raipur in the morning. It is likely to move further northwest and weaken to a low pressure area. The cyclonic circulation of this system has dragged the monsoon trough, south of its normal position, rather far from Delhi.

As the weather system moves further, the trough will inch forward and will get positioned in the close proximity of Delhi, on 14th and 15th Sep. Accordingly, reasonably good showers are likely on these two days for Delhi/NCR. The day temperatures running in high 30’s, about 3-5°C above the normal, will also take a sharp dip. Cloudy sky, intermittent showers and moderate breeze will provide the much needed relief.
