Mercury continues to hover in the comfort range over and around the national capital. As expected, the day temperature crossed 30°C yesterday to clock the maximum of 30.7°C. The minimum temperature remained under 15°C for the second consecutive day and was also the lowest of the last 10 days at 14.2°C. An incremental rise is likely, both in the day and night temperatures during this week. Major peak, threatening 40°C, rolls over to the fag end of the month between 25th and 27th March 2025. A very light sprinkle is likely during late night on 20th Mar or in the wee hours of 21st Mar. The wet spell will be very brief and light too, akin to a ‘touch and go’ situation. However, the temperature may drop by a notch or two on 21st & 22nd Mar, but only to rise appreciably during next week.

A western disturbance has arrived over the mountains as an upper air system.  The system will not have any adverse impact on the plains, but the wind speed and direction will alter. The mercury level is likely to rise over Delhi and suburbs over the next two days. Delhi temperature may cross 33°C today and add another degree or two tomorrow. A marginal fall is expected on the subsequent two days before it picks up significantly, around mid-week next.

There is a cyclonic circulation coming up over West Rajasthan today. This feature will shift eastward tomorrow to get placed over East Rajasthan and neighbouring Madhya Pradesh. This move will generate a mild convergence zone, which may trigger very light rainfall over Delhi/NCR during the intervening period of 20th and 21st March. The weather conditions will turn dry for Delhi in the subsequent one week. Heat is likely to build up during that period, and the city may inch closer to recording the first 40°C of this season.
