A short spell of thunderstorm-dust storm and light rainfall is likely over the plains of North India. The pre-monsoon activity will cover parts of Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Chandigarh, Delhi and some parts of West Uttar Pradesh. The weather activity is split over two days, the 16th and 18th of April 2025. The spread of activity will be more on 16th/17th April and shrink on 18th April.

A western disturbance is arriving over the hills of North India tomorrow. An induced cyclonic circulation is likely to come up over the plains. The combined effect of these two systems will trigger thunderstorms, dust storms, squally winds and flashes of lightning. Light rain or drizzle may follow over some parts.

The western disturbance will stay put for nearly 4-5 days and influence weather conditions over the mountains during the period of the 16th to the 21st of April. Remnant effects may be seen on the next two days across the mid and higher reaches. Plains will have adverse weather conditions over large parts on the intervening night of 16th and 17th April. Thunderstorm-dust storm activity is likely over Pathankot, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Patiala, Chandigarh, Ambala, Hisar, Karnal, Panipat, Sirsa, Ganganagar, Hanumangarh, Anupgarh, Suratgarh, Jaipur and Ajmer in the evening/night hours of 16th April or in the wee hours of 17th April morning.

For the hilly states, the intensity and spread of weather activity will be large between the 18th and 20th of April. The states of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh run the risk of inclement weather conditions during this period. Dangerous hailstorm activity is quite likely at some places. The convective activity may spill over to the foothills of Punjab and Haryana during this period. More vulnerable locations will include Amritsar, Pathankot, Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Ropar, Chandigarh, Mohali, Ambala, Panchkula and Yamuna Nagar. The weather activity will stretch over to Dehradun, Roorkee, Haridwar, Saharanpur and other foothill stations of Uttarakhand. Broad clearance over the entire region is expected around mid-week next.
