Today And Tomorrow - More Showers For Delhi

Base station Safdarjung, airport observatory Palam, and the meteorological office at Lodhi Road recorded traces of rainfall. The weather activity continues and is likely to extend till tomorrow and a break, thereafter. Most parts of the northern plains received decent winter rainfall over the last two days. Isolated hailstorm activity has also been reported. The hilly states witnessed heavy snowfall across the region. As predicted, Delhi being on the outer periphery, light rainfall was recorded over Delhi/NCR.
Delhi has recorded a mere 1.4 mm of rainfall in February 2025 against the normal of 21.5 mm. Notwithstanding February being the rainiest winter month, there were occasions earlier when the city recorded zero rainfall. It so happened in 2017, 2018, and 2023. There are freak occurrences when the capital city was deluged with three-digit rainfall in the month. Feb 2013 had gone on record to register 103.1 mm rainfall, half of which was on a single occasion, on 05 Feb 2013. Otherwise, Feb 1915 continues to have an all-time high record of 153.4 mm.
This month had higher than normal temperatures on most days. The highest in the month, being 32.4°C, was on 26th Feb, the only day of the month breaching the 30°C mark. The capital city has gone on record to cross the 30°C mark in February on 9 occasions since 2009. The maximum temperature has crossed earlier, 33°C in Feb 2021 & 2023. The temperature is unlikely to reach or cross 30°C for the next week.
There is a western disturbance over the mountains and an induced cyclonic circulation over the Rajasthan region. The east-west trough is extending up to the Delhi region. Cloudy skies with light patchy rains are likely today and tomorrow. The sky is expected to become overcast with dense clouds in the night and morning hours tomorrow. The scale and spread of weather activity will be more in the night and early morning tomorrow. Weather conditions will improve tomorrow, towards evening and night hours.
