Torrential rains in Gujarat lead to flood like situation in Surat, Valsad and Vadodara

Monsoon has covered southern parts of Gujarat and is moving across Dwarka, Ahmedabad and then towards Madhya Pradesh.

In the past 24 hours, Monsoon remained vigorous over the South coastal stations of Gujarat like Valsad, Surat, and Bhavnagar. Valsad, Bhavnagar and Surat recorded 130 mm, 53 mm and 24 mm of rains, respectively. These rainfall activities were in the wake of an active Monsoon Trough running from South Gujarat up to Karnataka coast. The Trough will continue to be active for the next 24 hours, thus rainfall activity is likely to continue over South Coastal stations for the next 48 hours especially over Surat, Valsad, Mahua, Vadodara, Daman and Diu.

While rest of South Gujarat stations are receiving normal rainfall, Kutch area is witnessing below normal rain. For the next 24 hours, scattered light to moderate rain is likely in Rajkot, Dwarka and Gandhinagar. Light rains would continue over Saurashtra and adjoining areas as well. While rainfall activity is likely to recede from North and East Gujarat after 24 hours.

In the last 24 hours, Gujarat received excess rainfall of 35% than normal while, Saurashtra remained deficit by 66%. Till date, Gujarat is rain deficient by 34% wherein the total rainfall received is 65.7 mm against the normal of 99.2 mm.
