Unseasonal rain and hailstorm over Maharashtra and Telangana to continue for another 24 hours

Many parts of Vidarbha and Marathwada have been receiving rain and our activities accompanied with isolated hailstorm since last 2 days. Intense thundershowers associated with strong winds were also reported over parts of Mumbai and suburbs. Matheran recorded 62 mm of heavy rain during last 24 hours.

In fact, untimely rains also lashed parts of Telangana leading to dip in temperatures. Districts like Mulugu, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Rajanna Sircilla, Karimnagar, Mancherial, Komarambheem Asifabad, Nirmal, Adilabad, Nizamabad, Kamareddy, Hyderabad, Yadadri and Bhongir of Telangana witnessed the rainfall.

The weather system which was over Vidarbha as a cyclonic circulation now shifted towards Madhya Maharashtra and adjoining areas. A trough is also extending from this cyclonic circulation to Kerala. These two weather systems resulting low level moisture feed from Bay of Bengal in the form of South easterly winds and humid winds from Arabian Sea at a height of 3 Kms are also pushing moisture over Maharashtra Telangana and Central India.

The ongoing rainfall activities are expected to continue for another 24 hours over these areas. Thereafter, weather will start clearing up. Isolated pockets of south Telangana may continue with light rain activities thereafter as well. South Peninsula, particularly South interior Karnataka, Rayalaseema, coastal Andhra Pradesh and parts of Tamil Nadu may receive scattered rain and thundershower until February 21st.
