Weak monsoon conditions are expected to continue over South Peninsula

August 17, 2022 9:22 AM |

Almost all the states of South India are either normal excess for large excess in terms of rainfall between June 1 and August 13. South Peninsula is surplus by 33%. In fact, in the month of June and July, most of the southern States recorded good rainfall. Kerala was rain deficient until the end of July. Although decent rainfall continued over Kerala in the month of June and July the average rainfall is very high which is why the deficiency of rainfall persisted.

Rain activities have subsided over most of the southern States in the last 2-3 days. We do not expect any significant rainfall over the Southern States for at least the next week. The reason being the formation of low-pressure areas over the Bay of Bengal are taking place in the Northern parts of the Bay. Monsoon will remain active over Central parts of the country and some parts of east and north India.

Monsoon search over West Coast has weakened and we do not expect the formation of any low-pressure area over Central or southwest parts of Bay of Bengal which would have activated the monsoon surge.

There may be isolated to scattered rain over Tamil Nadu on August 16 and 17th. Coastal areas of Karnataka may also receive light to moderate rain. But overall monsoon will remain subdued.
