A fresh western disturbance is approaching the Western Himalayas, very soon. Ahead of this system, the upper air trough is moving across the northern mountains affecting only the higher reaches with rain and snow. The following system will be stronger and impact a complete range of hills and plains, as well. Punjab and Haryana, more so, their foothills will witness weather activity, commencing tomorrow. The wet spell for the plains will be short and sweet, lasting for just one day.
An induced cyclonic circulation is coming up over parts of north Punjab and the border areas. Coupled and aided by the western disturbance, rain and thundershowers are likely over Punjab and Haryana. Delhi and extreme north Rajasthan will be on the outer fringes of the system. These pockets may have a cloudy sky, with an outside chance of brief duration passing showers. This system does not seem to be strong enough to lash some hailstorm activity, as the previous system did. However, a flash of lightning, peal of distant thunder and mild gust of wind may be witnessed, as far as, Delhi/NCR and border areas of north Rajasthan.
Pathankot, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Hoshiyarpur, Kapurthala, Ludhiana, Ropar, Chandigarh and Mohali are likely to have rain and thundershowers on 13th March. Northern parts of Haryana covering Ambala, Yamuna Nagar and Panchkula will also experience weather activity on similar lines, for the same duration. Interior parts of Haryana, bordering Rajasthan may skip the activity, as such. Far northern parts of Rajasthan like Ganganagar, Hanumangarh, Anupgarh and Suratgarh may witness flashes of lightning and gusty winds, but without much rain and showers.
Broad clearance is expected on 14th March, itself. No likelihood of another spell for the plains, at least for the subsequent 10 days. Mountains will keep on having some activity, on account of western disturbance, with breaks in between. The passage of this system may lower the temperatures over the plains marginally, for a brief period.
