Winters to commence over Rajasthan soon

November 30, 2018 4:59 PM | Skymet Weather Team

Weathermen at Skymet expect temperatures to drop over the entire state of Rajasthan, marginally during the next two days, thereafter temperatures may drop further from December 6 which may mark the commencement of Winters over the state.

Most parts of Rajasthan remained absolutely dry during November this year however, isolated light rains were witnessed by Northwest parts of the state. Places like Ganganagar and Hanumangarh received light to very light rain on November 12.

Both day and night temperatures are still above normal over most parts of Northwest and Central Rajasthan, except a few pockets of South Rajasthan where they are near normal or marginally below normal.

Desert region of Rajasthan such as Churu, Bikaner and Ganganagar witness very low temperatures by the end of November but this time, temperatures remained high. Temperatures of Churu did not drop below 5°C which is very unusual.

These above normal temperatures can be attributed to the lack of active Western Disturbances as well as the absence of cold Northerly winds from Western Himalayas.

Whenever there is a gap of 5-6 days between two successive Western Disturbances, cold winds form North and Northwest continues up to Rajasthan dropping the temperatures. But this year, formation of one after another Western Disturbance did not allow cold Northwest winds over Rajasthan. That is why winter chill is still absent from the state.
