July 14, 2022 9:04 PM | Skymet Weather Team

State of Telangana was ravaged by incessant rains for the entire duration of July, so far.  However, the 2nd week of July was more rigorous than the first one.  During the 1st week, state received 82.4mm of rainfall against the normal of 34.4mm, an excess of 230%. The 2nd week between 07th and 13th July was deluged with 262.4mm against the average of 48.6mm, surplus by 440%. In the month of July, the state has recorded 344.8mm versus normal of 83mm, so far. It has far exceeded even the monthly normal  for July viz. 232.7mm. This is successive July receiving such heavy rains in a row. Last year, July had witnessed 365.7mm against the normal of 232.7mm, excess by 57%. July 2022 will surpass last year record as the state receives some decent rainfall in 2nd half of July.

The low pressure area over Bay of Bengal moved across the central parts, through South Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra. An east-west shear zone, manifested as clusters of convective clouds, was also marked in the close proximity of state.  Telangana, sharing its border with Vidarbha and Marathwada bore the brunt of monsoon fury. Northern half of the sate had bigger share of the deluge. Nizamabad was the most rainiest district amongst all, followed by Adilabad.  Nirmal, Jagtial, J. Bhupalpally also ranked close to the rainiest pockets. All the 33 districts of the state, except Jogulamba Gadwal have recorded large excess or excess of rainfall during the monsoon season, so far.

Weather conditions are expected to improve, now onwards. The low pressure as cyclonic circulation has moved to Gujarat.  Another low pressure is likely over Bay of Bengal, but will not track anywhere close to the state. The shear zone will shift to safe distance from the state borders. Mild to normal monsoon weather activity is expected over most parts of the state. Abundance of moisture left behind by copious rains and local factors may cause isolated sporadic weather activity for short durations. Overall, the worst weather for the state seems to be over for now and pleasant weather conditions are expected over the next 10days or so.
