Southwest Monsoon covers entire India in June itself

SMUpdated on June 26, 2015: In a hurry to cover entire India in June itself, Southwest Monsoon beaten the normal date of its arrival in Rajasthan, July 15. The Monsoon has reached Rajasthan a day after it arrived in Delhi. Monsoon in India has enveloped the country even when 4 days are still left to the end of first Monsoon month.

 

Updated on June 25, 2015: Southwest Monsoon that begins its journey in first week of June and stretches till mid-July to spread its wing over entire India has shown a rapid pace this year. After arriving in Kerala behind schedule, Monsoon in India advanced over West Coast and North India is quick succession, after the cyclonic storm Ashobaa stalled its advancement. The Monsoon rains have soaked Delhi on Thursday, 3-4 days prior to the expected date of its arrival this year. The usual date of arrival of Monsoon in Delhi is somewhere in the first week of July. According to Skymet, rainfall activity will remain active for next one or two days in Delhi and adjoining areas of NCR. Monsoon rains have brought relief to the Delhiites from the soaring temperatures. In last 24 hours, Safdarjung Observatory received 20 mm of rain and Palam Observatory received 13 mm of rain. The June-through-September rainy season has also arrived in some parts of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab, according to Skymet Meteorology Division of India. Southwest Monsoon is likely to take a week or so to reach West Rajasthan while it will continue to soak other parts of India with moderate to heavy rain.
