Low Pressure Area To Form Over Bay Of Bengal: Active Monsoon Conditions Likely
A cyclonic circulation is marked over the Northwest Bay of Bengal, off the Odisha coast, extending up to higher levels. Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the same region by late tomorrow or early the day after. The system will consolidate and may become well marked over the sea itself. The low pressure is expected to cross the coast on 28 August and thereafter track along Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan. Active to vigorous monsoon activity is likely during this week over eastern, central, and western parts of the country.
The remnant of the earlier low-pressure area is now lying over Northwest Madhya Pradesh and adjoining Uttar Pradesh. It is likely to become less marked and turn into a cyclonic circulation over the same area. The pre-existing cyclonic circulation over Northeast Rajasthan and the Haryana region will merge with this system, and a broad circulation embedded in the monsoon trough is likely to meander over the area for the next three days. Subsequently, a diffused pattern in a weaker wind field is expected to develop over the region.
In the meantime, a fresh low-pressure area will move inland on 28 August, across Odisha and Chhattisgarh. The leftover of the earlier system, coupled with the ingress of the low pressure, will reenergize monsoon activity and increase its intensity and spread. A large span of the country between 20°–30°N, from the eastern states of Odisha and West Bengal to the border areas of Gujarat and Rajasthan in the west, will witness active monsoon conditions during the remaining days of August, with a spillover into September as well.
Significant weather activity will remain confined to Odisha, West Bengal, and Chhattisgarh on 27 and 28 August. It will expand further to cover parts of Jharkhand, Bihar, East Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra (including Konkan–Mumbai) on 29 August. Entire Madhya Pradesh, East and North Rajasthan, Gujarat, Delhi, and Southwest Uttar Pradesh will have fairly widespread weather activity on 30 and 31 August 2025. While intense weather activity may vacate most central parts, active to vigorous monsoon showers will continue to lash Rajasthan, North Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh on 1 and 2 September 2025. Since model accuracy drops after a lead time of about five days, further forecasts will be reviewed and shared with precision.
