Light-Patchy Showers On Weekend For Delhi- More Rains Next Week
Delhi region observed moderate showers till yesterday morning and remained relatively quiet thereafter. Over the last two days, airport Palam recorded 78mm rainfall and the base station at Safdarjung registered 38mm. Safdarjung has so far recorded 57mm rainfall in July, against the monthly total of 195.8mm. Yesterday, the sky remained heavily clouded and restricted the temperature rise. Safdarjung recorded a day high of 30.6°C, a drop of 5°C from the previous day. Also, this was the lowest temperature of July 2025 so far. Lodhi Road office had a similar read of 30.4°C, about 5°C below the normal.
The monsoon trough continues to be in the proximity of Delhi. The axis of the trough is connecting cyclonic circulation over Punjab and adjoining region and another one over Jharkhand and neighbouring Chhattisgarh. The latter one is the remnant of a low-pressure area, earlier marked over West Bengal. This circulation will be slowly moving westward across Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan over the next 4-5 days. The monsoon trough will oscillate in the vicinity of Delhi on the weekend and finally shift south of the capital city on 13th-14th July. It will retain this position till 17th July and start shifting once again northward. The oscillating pattern of the monsoon trough will trigger monsoon showers over the city and suburbs over the next one week or so.
The showers are likely to be patchy and light to moderate today and tomorrow. The intensity and spread will increase on Sunday night and the rainfall will be more frequent thereafter. This activity will go on till 17th July and relax thereafter. The temperatures will remain suppressed and mostly hover in the low 30s. Nights and early morning hours will be quite pleasant.
