Delhi: Light-Moderate Showers Today-Tomorrow, May Dry Up On Weekend
Delhi/NCR witnessed very light rains over most parts in the past 24 hours. Small pockets in the central region did receive sharp and intense showers for a brief duration. Base station Safdarjung and Met Office Lodhi Road recorded 15 mm and 17.8 mm rainfall. Showers were absolutely patchy and fleeting but helped keep the mercury rise restricted. More rainfall is likely today and tomorrow and will relax thereafter.
The low-pressure area over Rajasthan moved northwest and weakened over North Pakistan and adjoining border areas of Punjab and North Rajasthan. However, the associated cyclonic circulation persists up to the medium levels. The monsoon trough is running from this circulation and joining the other cyclonic circulation over Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh and extending further eastward across Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, and West Bengal. The north-south movement of this trough will trigger the weather activity over Delhi and suburbs.
The monsoon trough is keeping some distance from Delhi and is located south of the national capital. The weather activity may not be very intense, yet cloud build-up is likely in the afternoon and evening. Once again, the southern peripherals of the capital city will witness strong and speedy showers and become relatively mild over the northern boundary of NCR.
Delhi has a normal rainfall of 195.8 mm for July. It has recorded 115 mm rainfall so far. Delhi has a good track record for the month of July and has exceeded the monthly average for the last seven successive years. However, it may struggle this season to repeat the performance. The weekend, as such, will have very little in store, and the following week also does not promise any decent downpour. Still, the temperatures are expected to remain within the comfort zone and are unlikely to exceed 35°C during this period.
