The Western Disturbance is clearing the northern mountains. The cyclonic circulation over the northern plains has weakened and moved to the foothills of West Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. The east-west trough is also vacating the Delhi area, and anticyclonic northwesterly winds are likely to set in. No active Western Disturbance is expected over the hills during the next one week. Fair weather conditions, typical of the post-monsoon season, are likely over the Delhi region.
The Western Disturbance and cyclonic circulation together have resulted in fairly widespread rain and thundershowers over the hills and plains of North India. There was light to moderate snowfall on the elevated peaks across the mountainous states. The exit of weather systems from the region will leave a trail of cold winds, blowing down the slopes and reaching the meadows of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and adjoining parts. There is a likelihood of a pleasant nip in the air over the entire region. No sharp drop in mercury is expected, but temperatures will slide to reach below normal for the next few days.
The day temperature in the Delhi area was about 5°C below normal, and the minimum also dipped by 3–4°C from the previous day. The maximum temperature is likely to stay around 32°C (±1°C), and the minimum will hover around 19°C (±1°C). Fair weather conditions with a few patches of clouds are likely due to leftover moisture. Early mornings will start becoming cool and hazy. A mild breeze in the morning will add a chill to the air and set the stage for a wintry flavour during the second half of October.
