Delhi/NCR did not witness any pre-monsoon activity during the past 24 hours. Though weather conditions turned favourable yesterday evening, the activity remained confined to the southern parts of Delhi, covering Rewari, Nuh, Palwal and adjoining areas. In the absence of any significant weather activity, the maximum temperature climbed close to 40°C. However, the temperature is likely to dip marginally today by around 1°C.
A Western Disturbance is currently moving across the hilly states and associated cloud bands have extended along the foothills of Punjab and Haryana. Simultaneously, a cyclonic circulation persists over Northwest Rajasthan and adjoining border areas. An east-west trough is also extending across Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, remaining in close proximity to Delhi. Under the influence of these systems, weather activity is likely over and around Delhi during the late afternoon and evening hours.
Dust storm and thunderstorm activity accompanied by strong winds is expected to affect most parts of Delhi and NCR. Patchy light showers may also occur at isolated places. The maximum temperature is unlikely to exceed 38°C (±1°C). Day temperatures are expected to remain below the 40°C mark for the next 4-5 days. Strong surface winds are also likely during afternoon and evening hours. Mild weather activity with isolated thunderstorms is expected over Delhi/NCR during the upcoming weekend.
Delhi records a normal rainfall of 80.6 mm during June. Safdarjung observatory has recorded 32.2 mm rainfall between June 1 and June 19. However, heavy rain or prolonged thundershower activity appears unlikely at present. Southwest Monsoon is expected to arrive over Delhi after its normal onset date of June 27. During the last three years, Delhi recorded above-normal June rainfall exceeding 100 mm, but a repeat of such performance appears unlikely this season, with below-normal rainfall expected for the month.
