The cyclonic circulations and low-pressure areas forming over the Bay of Bengal (BoB) are the main drivers of the monsoon current. The last low-pressure over BoB travelled across Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, and weakened over East and Central Uttar Pradesh. The cyclonic circulation of the system extends up to medium levels and is keeping the monsoon active over the region.

A fresh cyclonic circulation is likely to form over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining BoB on 25th June. A deep trough is marked over that region and is likely to persist for the next 48 hours. Under its influence, an organised circulation will appear on 25th June. This will have the potential to strengthen into a low-pressure area over the same region.

As per model indications, the low pressure and the associated cyclonic circulation are going to be stationary over the same region for a good about three days or so. After consolidation and reorganisation, the system will move northward over land and proceed further. Since the model accuracy is not much reliable beyond five days, further prognostication may not be fair.

The appearance of this system will give a fresh push to the monsoon stream. However, the fear is that this weather system may also follow the same track as its predecessor, across the Indo-Gangetic plains. In such a scenario, the rains will get confined to the eastern and northern states covering West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and the northern plains. The South Peninsula region may go through another spell of scanty rains. The rainfall deficit is likely to increase in the sub-divisions of Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, Telangana, South & North Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Vidarbha, and Marathwada.

Courtesy this system, monsoon will get a strong push to reach over the left-out areas. Monsoon is likely to reach the remaining parts of Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, and more areas of Rajasthan, Haryana, and Punjab in the next two days. There is likelihood of monsoon covering the entire Indian region, including the last posts of West Rajasthan, before the due date of 08th July.
