Heavy Rains Return to Mumbai: City Braces for Week-Long Wet Spell Monsoon Pause Ends
Jun 13, 2025, 4:26 PM | Skymet Weather TeamAfter a relatively dry start to June, Mumbai is finally set to receive significant rainfall. Following a strong monsoon onset on 25th and 26th May, the rains had gone quiet.
From June 1 to 12, the Santacruz observatory recorded only 90 mm of rain—well below the monthly average of 493.1 mm. But that’s about to change.
Rain Picks Up June 13 Onwards
Starting today, June 13, Mumbai is expected to see heavy rains for three consecutive days, peaking today and continuing with moderate to heavy showers on June 14 and 15. This rainfall is linked to a weather system that moved from the Bay of Bengal, travelled inland, and is now influencing conditions along the Western Ghats and Konkan coast.
Wettest Days Ahead: June 16 to 18
Another system is brewing over the Bay of Bengal, expected to become more organized by June 14. As it progresses across Odisha and Chhattisgarh, Mumbai is likely to experience a fresh round of heavy rainfall between June 16 and 18, with June 17 and 18 expected to be particularly intense.
Short Break, Then More Showers
By June 19 and 20, the rains may ease temporarily as the system moves towards North Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. However, moderate showers are expected to return by June 21, keeping the city wet and humid through the third week of June.
Rainfall Totals and Regional Spread
Mumbai is likely to accumulate around 200 mm of rainfall over the next 5–6 days, helping the city reach half of its monthly average. This wet spell will also cover Madhya Maharashtra, Goa, and North Coastal Karnataka, with cities like Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, and Raigad in line for consistent downpours.
