Key Takeaways:

  • Delhi-NCR recorded light rainfall of 1–2 mm across most observatories in the last 24 hours.
  • Light to moderate, scattered showers are likely to continue across the city until July 26.
  • Rainfall activity may briefly intensify between July 27 and July 28 as the monsoon trough shifts northward.
  • Maximum temperatures may reach around 36°C, with high humidity leading to uncomfortable weather conditions.
  • Forecast Validity: Next 5 to 7 days.

Delhi-NCR received light rainfall over most parts during the past 24 hours. Safdarjung, Palam, Lodhi Road and other observatories recorded 1–2 mm of rainfall. The base observatory at Safdarjung has received 157.8 mm of rainfall so far this month against the monthly normal of 195.8 mm.

Light to moderate rainfall is likely over most parts of the city till Sunday. However, the lack of widespread cloud cover and the absence of significant rainfall will allow daytime temperatures to rise over the next four to five days.

A broad cyclonic circulation, associated with the east-west shear zone, is currently extending across South Rajasthan, North Gujarat, North Madhya Maharashtra, West and Central Madhya Pradesh, North Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Bihar. This weather system has pushed the seasonal monsoon trough well south of Delhi. At present, the monsoon trough passes through Jaisalmer, Kota, Guna and further eastwards up to Gangetic West Bengal.

As the trough remains at a safe distance from Delhi, no intense weather activity is expected between July 23 and July 26, 2026. During this period, most parts of the city are likely to witness light to moderate, scattered and short-duration showers.

The western end of the shear zone is expected to shift gradually northwards from the late hours of July 26. Consequently, the monsoon trough will also move north of Delhi at the lower levels. Further oscillation of the trough and its eventual shift towards the foothills of West Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand by July 28 will enhance monsoon activity over those regions.

As a spillover effect, rainfall intensity over Delhi may increase temporarily between July 27 and July 28, 2026. Until then, the absence of widespread rainfall is expected to push the maximum temperature to around 36°C (±1°C), nearly 2°C above normal. Easterly winds will keep humidity levels high, resulting in warm and sultry conditions during sunshine hours.
