A cyclonic circulation is marked over the Northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining parts of North Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal. Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the same region within the next 24 hours. The system may stay put over this area for consolidation and consequent strengthening. It will remain broadly positioned over Bangladesh and the southern parts of Gangetic West Bengal till 29th June and is expected to later move along the Indo-Gangetic plains.

Rains are likely to be moderate but widespread over West Bengal, North Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand, and North Chhattisgarh between 26th and 28th June. The intensity and coverage will increase further between 29th and 30th June, with rains extending to East Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.

The monsoon is likely to become vigorous on 1st July, lashing Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, East Madhya Pradesh, and East Uttar Pradesh with very heavy rainfall. The heavy rainfall belt will then move further west, reaching West Madhya Pradesh, West Uttar Pradesh, and South Rajasthan. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected over these regions between 2nd and 4th July. Rainfall will also spill over to cover parts of North and South Gujarat, as well as the Konkan region.

Currently, Bihar and Chhattisgarh have a rainfall deficiency of 22% and 32%, respectively. Odisha has a small shortfall of 7%. The upcoming wet spell across these states over the next week is likely to wipe out the rain deficit. Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, already in surplus, may move into a large excess category during the same period. Overall, the monsoon is likely to remain active over eastern, central, western, and northern parts of the country. However, the Southern Peninsula is unlikely to recover from the weak phase of the monsoon, and the rainfall deficit is expected to grow further over Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Vidarbha, Marathwada, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala.
