The maximum temperature has dropped over Delhi over the last two days. The highest of this month so far was 42.3°C, recorded on 16th May 2025. This has been the second-lowest May temperature for Delhi, the lowest being 41.6°C, registered on 05th May 2021. The base station at Safdarjung recorded a high of 41.4°C yesterday, marginally higher than the previous day's mark of 40.8°C.

The temperature is unlikely to rise beyond 40°C during this week. The month of May has escaped the heat wave conditions so far, and it is likely to remain in abeyance, at least for another week or so.

A cyclonic circulation is marked in the lower levels over South Haryana and Northeast Rajasthan. Another circulation is lying over North Punjab and border areas of Pakistan. The trough joining these two is running close to Delhi. This feature is likely to shift southward and extend from North Punjab to Southwest Uttar Pradesh and Northwest Madhya Pradesh.

The existing wind pattern will undergo change in the lower levels, and a predominantly easterly stream will establish over and around Delhi. These winds will be warm and humid.

The change in the wind pattern will result drop. In the day temperatures. Though the heat index will slide down, the increase in humidity will result in muggy conditions, more so from mid-week onwards. The proximity of the trough to the capital city favors a spell of dust storms followed by showers today and tomorrow.

Actually, the combination of humidity and the temperature will keep the conditions supportive of brief and light spells of thunderstorms all through the week. Most of this weather activity will take place in the evening hours.
