Delhi/NCR received scattered rain and thunderstorms in the past 24 hours. Base station Safdarjung and airport Palam recorded 8 mm and 1 mm rainfall respectively. Most other weather stations across the city also recorded light rainfall between 2-5 mm. Similar conditions are prevailing today as well. The weather activity will be more visible today and tomorrow. Pre-monsoon activity will ease out later.
Small bubbles of cyclonic circulation, typical of pre-monsoonal weather, are marked over Haryana & Punjab and northwest Uttar Pradesh. The trough line joining these circulations is keeping close proximity with Delhi. Few parts of Haryana and southwest Uttar Pradesh received a spell of thunderstorm in the morning hours. Another round of activity is expected in the evening and night hours.
The normal date for the southwest monsoon is 27th June for Delhi. It will overshoot the stipulated arrival and roll over to July. Monsoon low pressure is likely to form over the Bay of Bengal at the start of July. The arrival of monsoon over Delhi is linked with the subsequent track of this low pressure area. In any case, the likely date will be after 05th July 2026.
The pre-monsoon activity over Delhi and suburbs will become the least over the weekend and reduce further during next week. The surface and low-level winds will become stronger and so, no sharp rise in temperature is expected over the next 5-6 days. Monsoon arrival, tentatively after 05th July, will relax the compounding heat over and around the national capital. The fag end of June and the start of July will have mild weather activity.
