Delhi/NCR Gets Moderate Rainfall, More Showers Today: Intense Activity On Weekend
DelhiNCR received a good spell of monsoon rainfall in the past 24 hours. The region has been lashed twice, a spell in the afternoon yesterday and early morning activity today. The morning spell had a large spread and more intensity, leaving many of the roads and underpasses waterlogged. Office goers were troubled as the traffic snarls became lengthy and nasty. Rain and thundershowers are continuing but are likely to ease out in the afternoon.
As expected, the monsoon trough oscillated in the proximity of Delhi and has predominantly shifted north of the capital city at 5000 feet height and above. There is a western disturbance across the mountains complementing the monsoon trough. Another significant feature is also coming up to influence Delhi weather in the coming days.
A low-pressure area is likely to form over the North Bay of Bengal, supported by cyclonic circulation extending up to higher levels. This system will move inland on 26th July and track along the Indo-Gangetic plains. The wind pattern will undergo a change, and a strong easterly stream will sweep Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Delhi between 26th and 31st July. The monsoon trough will get pulled to the south of its normal position. The northern plains, including Delhi, will witness an extended spell of wet weather.
The current spell of rain and thundershowers over the Delhi region will cease in the afternoon hours. Associated with a cloudy sky, a very light sprinkle may continue in isolated pockets. The weather conditions are expected to be better tomorrow, and both the intensity and spread of weather activity will reduce on 24th and 25th July 2025. A fresh uptick in monsoon activity will start on Saturday and become more intense on Sunday. Intermittent rain and thundershowers of moderate intensity will become more frequent during next week as well. The month of July may end on a rainy note, and hot and humid conditions are likely to remain suppressed after 25th July 2025.
