Moderate Rainfall In Delhi/NCR: More Showers Ahead During The Week
Delhi woke up to a rainy morning today, and moderate showers lashed most parts of NCR. Weather conditions were very much on the predicted lines, and the capital city will witness more rainfall during this week. Sharp and speedy showers are more likely today, tomorrow, and the day after. The intensity and spread will subside later during the week.
Though most parts of the capital city received rainfall in the past 24 hours, the scale and cover were quite uneven. While the airport observatory Palam recorded 17mm of rainfall, the base station Safdarjung registered less than one millimeter. Ayanagar and Salwan School were other stations witnessing double-digit rainfall of 10mm. The highest score was 26mm at Pusa observatory.
The low-pressure area now lies over Northwest Madhya Pradesh and adjoining parts. The cyclonic circulation extends up to middle levels. The weather system will move to parts of East and Central Rajasthan over the next two days. The western end of the monsoon trough in the lower levels has shifted southward and will remain so between 29th and 31st July. Delhi is positioned on the northern periphery of the trough but not very far from the core of the system. The severe weather activity will remain confined to parts of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. Delhi/NCR will have mostly moderate or light showers till mid-week.
The low pressure will weaken, and the remnants will move close to the foothills of Uttarakhand and West Uttar Pradesh later during this week. The monsoon trough will also shift north of Delhi and remain close to the foothills later this week. With this shift, the timings and the pattern of weather activity will also change for Delhi. Till mid-week, rain and showers will be more likely during the daytime, and the timings may shift later towards evening and night. The temperatures will remain in the low 30s for the rest of the week. Heavy rains are not likely over Delhi from tomorrow onwards and will remain so for the subsequent 5–6 days.
