Mumbai and its suburbs have witnessed decent pre-monsoon weather activity, a little early this season. Many parts of the financial capital recorded scattered moderate showers for the last three consecutive days. Yesterday, the Colaba observatory registered moderate showers and rainfall of 22mm. Santa Cruz, somehow, did not receive any rain. Over the last three days, Santacruz and Colaba have accumulated 34mm and 48 mm of rainfall, respectively. The monthly normal for the city is a mere 11.3mm.

Mumbai does not receive pre-monsoon rainfall so early, during the first week of May itself. Sometimes, the activity rolls over to the month of June, just before the arrival of the monsoon. May 2025 may as well be an outlier to get it, and that too for a few days in a row. The showers are likely for the next three days. These showers will, of course, be patchy in nature and last for a short duration. Yesterday, there was a decent buildup around the airport in the afternoon, but it failed to trigger rain and thundershowers. Colaba got a better share with 22 mm of rainfall in one go itself.

There is a cyclonic circulation over the east-central Arabian Sea, off the Konkan Coast, in the lower levels of the atmosphere. A trough extends from the circulation to southwest Madhya Pradesh across Konkan and north Madhya Maharashtra. This feature is pumping moist southerly winds along the coastline of Konkan. In addition to Mumbai, there have been moderate pre-monsoon showers over Ratnagiri, Harnai, Mahabaleshwar, and Matheran.

Scattered and intermittent rainfall is likely over Mumbai and the suburbs till the weekend. Most of this activity will be in the afternoon and evening hours. The intensity and spread of showers will be good enough to have a pleasant feeling of weather feeling. No disruption in the common services is expected for commuters. The temperatures will remain within the comfort range of 31°–32°C. The minimum temperature is likely to stay under 25°C. One or two spells of light and brief showers may spill over to the start of next week as well, before going for a break around mid-week next week.
