The western disturbance is still moving across the northern hills. An east-west trough, with embedded small-scale circulations over Punjab, Haryana, and Northwest Uttar Pradesh, remains in the close proximity of Delhi. Under the combined influence of these systems, conditions remain favourable for one or two spells of rain and thundershowers over Delhi/NCR today and tomorrow. A cloudy sky during the day may be succeeded by fleeting and patchy showers towards evening and night.
Cloudy skies and a mild breeze may keep the temperatures suppressed to under 35°C for the second day in a row. Even the night temperature will stay in the pleasant mid-20s. A twist in the weather conditions is likely after 48 hours. Warm and humid conditions may follow and last till mid-week next.
Delhi had a normal of 80.6mm of rainfall in June. However, the quantum of rainfall varies a lot and is subject to the onset of the southwest monsoon. The normal date for Delhi is 27th June, but invariably it may step in early or overshoot the schedule and rarely arrive on date. It is difficult to commit to any date at this point in time. The east-west trough in the vicinity of Delhi will shift far to the north. Also, the western disturbance will exit from the mountains without any signs of a fresh system. The monsoon system over the Bay of Bengal, which generally revives the easterly stream all along the Indo-Gangetic plains, will take some time and could be as late as the middle of next week. Putting all these things together, Delhi is heading for a dry spell starting 06th June and may go on for a week or so. Dry weather conditions will lead to a rise in temperature and may scale to 40°C anytime around Sunday or later. However, the likely strong winds may take the pinch out and mitigate the rising heat index.
