Flood Alert Persists Over Uttar Pradesh

Uttar Pradesh continues to grapple with intense monsoon activity, with heavy to very heavy rainfall recorded in multiple districts. Overflowing rivers such as the Ganga, Yamuna, Ramganga, Sharda, Ghaghra, and Rapti have triggered flooding across several low-lying regions, including Prayagraj and adjoining districts.

Excess rainfall in Nepal’s foothills has added to the riverine swell, pushing water levels dangerously close to or above the danger mark.

Authorities remain on high alert, closely monitoring flood-prone zones and initiating mitigation measures, including rescue and relief operations.

FORECAST FOR DAYS AHEAD:

  • Heavy to very heavy rainfall likely to continue across parts of Uttar Pradesh for the next 4–5 days
  • Rainfall will be staggered, with different districts affected on different days
  • Fresh spell of rain expected after August 11, due to a new monsoon system in Bay of Bengal

RAINFALL UPDATE (Last 24 Hours):

  • Fursatganj – 106 mm
  • Moradabad – 104 mm
  • Lucknow – 91 mm
  • Bareilly – 86 mm
  • Prayagraj – 50 mm
  • Kanpur – 44 mm

Rainfall in Nepal’s catchment areas and along the Himalayan foothills has significantly worsened the flood situation.

RIVER STATUS & FLOODING:

  • Ganga, Yamuna, Ramganga, Sharda, Ghaghra, and Rapti are either near or above danger level
  • Multiple embankment breaches have been reported, leading to waterlogging and inundation in low-lying areas
  • Risk of urban and rural flooding remains high in vulnerable districts

WHAT’S BREWING?

  • Monsoon trough has shifted north of its normal position over the Indo-Gangetic plains
  • Cyclonic circulation over southwest and central Uttar Pradesh may fuel further rain spells
  • A fresh monsoon system is expected to develop in Bay of Bengal around August 11, potentially reviving monsoon strength in the region and altering wind patterns

DISTRICTS UNDER WATCH:

Residents in the following districts should remain vigilant:

Lucknow, Faizabad, Kanpur, Prayagraj, Bareilly, Aligarh, Banda, Mahoba, Chitrakoot, Hamirpur, Orai, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Ballia, Ghazipur, Deoria, and Azamgarh

Key Advisory:

Maintain caution through the week. Local authorities may issue evacuation or flood advisories depending on river discharge and further rainfall. Monitor official channels for timely updates.
