The state of Uttar Pradesh has received heavy to very heavy rainfall in some parts. Also, there is excess rainfall in the catchment areas of the Nepal hills and along the foothills of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

This humongous rainfall has contributed to riverine flooding. Major rivers in Uttar Pradesh like the Ganga, Yamuna, Ramganga, Sharda, Ghaghra, and Rapti are flowing dangerously close to or above the danger level. Some rivers have breached the embankments, causing inundation and waterlogging of low-lying areas. The authorities are closely monitoring the situation and taking necessary measures to mitigate the impact of floods, including providing assistance to affected people.

The seasonal monsoon trough has shifted north of its normal position along the Indo-Gangetic plains. With this, the rainfall has reduced over most other parts of the country, but Uttar Pradesh and Bihar face the risk of heavy to very heavy rainfall. Heavy rainfall stations in the past 24 hours include Fursatganj – 106 mm, Moradabad – 104 mm, Lucknow – 91 mm, Bareilly – 86 mm, Prayagraj – 50 mm, and Kanpur – 44 mm. More rains are likely across the state over the next 4–5 days over different parts, albeit in a staggered manner.

While the monsoon trough will maintain its northward position, it will have embedded cyclonic circulations over southwest and central Uttar Pradesh. The state will have pockets of heavy rainfall in the plains and also along the foothills. A fresh monsoon system is expected to form over the Bay of Bengal around 11th August 2025, to revive the monsoon, and that will change the wind pattern yet again along the Indo-Gangetic plains. Another spell of heavy rains may follow from 11th August onwards. Precise duration and intensity will be tracked and shared in due course of time.

Currently, the locations to be watched out for inclement weather conditions will include Lucknow, Faizabad, Kanpur, Prayagraj, Bareilly, Aligarh, Banda, Mahoba, Chitrakoot, Hamirpur, Orai, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Ballia, Ghazipur, Deoria, and Azamgarh. Exercise utmost caution during the week ahead.
