State of West Bengal will have the second phase of polling to the state assembly on 29th April 2026. The remaining 142 seats are located in the eastern half of Gangetic West Bengal. This includes the capital city Kolkata. Unlike in the first phase, when Gangetic West Bengal did not observe any inclement weather, scattered rain and thundershowers are likely tomorrow over the poll-bound region of the state.

There is a cyclonic circulation over North Bangladesh in the lower levels. An east-west trough runs from West Uttar Pradesh to the center of this circulation across Gangetic West Bengal. An anticyclonic wind pattern over North Bay of Bengal, as such, is pushing moist air over West Bengal and Northeast India. Under the combined influence of these features, the eastern states of Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Northeast India will have typical pre-monsoon weather activity on 29th April 2026. This will include the poll-bound eastern half of Gangetic West Bengal, including Kolkata.

During pre-monsoon, most of the weather activity occurs in the late afternoon and evening hours. Heat-triggered thunderstorms become intense during the later part of the day. And the best part is, presence of cloud cover to mitigate heat during the morning and forenoon hours. The strong surface winds will accompany the thunder clouds and precede the pre-monsoon showers. No extreme heat is likely over the poll-bound region and the day temperatures will get arrested to around low thirties. High humidity content will lead to warm and sultry conditions till the rains arrive.
