Delhi observed a mix of weather conditions this April. The first half was highlighted by spells of rain and the second half by bouts of heat. The capital observed relatively cleaner environmental conditions. This was one of the wettest Aprils since 2008. The city has gathered rainfall of 29.7 mm, against the monthly normal of 16.7 mm. In April 2008, the base station Safdarjung had recorded 38.8 mm rainfall, about two and a half times the normal. The mean day temperature for the city has remained close to 37°C against the monthly average of 36.5°C. The city registered nine days when the maximum temperature exceeded 40°C, with the highest maximum of 42.8°C on 25th April 2026. Any more rainfall today will be counted against 01st May 2026.
There is a Western Disturbance as an upper air cyclonic circulation over the Pakistan and Kashmir region. An induced cyclonic circulation is marked over South Punjab and North Rajasthan. An east-west trough from the circulation is extending up to Southwest Uttar Pradesh, keeping proximity with Delhi. This trough will oscillate north and south, dragging the weather belt along.
A spell of dust-cum-thunderstorm is likely today in the evening/night hours over Delhi/NCR. It will be accompanied by dust-raising gusty winds. Tomorrow, the trough will shift north of Delhi and, therefore, the weather activity will lessen and may take a break before reviving again from 02nd May onwards. Another Western Disturbance is arriving on 02nd May 2026. The combination of this and its induced cyclonic circulation will be stronger than before, and the intensity and spread of weather activity will increase from 02nd May onwards. Peak weather activity over Delhi will be between 04th and 06th May 2026. However, a period of two days on either side of this window will also witness pre-monsoon weather activity, albeit on a smaller scale.
