During the last 24 hours, many parts of Rajasthan saw some unusual rains. While Southwest part of Rajasthan has recorded moderate to heavy rain, scattered light rain was also witnessed in the Northwest part of the state.

According to the rainfall figure available with Skymet, Barmer in a span of 24 hours from 8.30 am on Wednesday was pounded by 58 mm of rain. This is the highest rainfall recorded in the month of November for Barmer in the last 10 years. In fact, the city in the last decade has barely received any rain in the month of November as Southwest Rajasthan observes dry weather.

Meanwhile, 30 mm of rain was also observed in Phalodi, while Jaisalmer and Bikaner recorded light rain of 2 mm and 1 mm, respectively. Light rain was also witnessed in Sri Ganganagar.

The induced Cyclonic Circulation over Southwest Rajasthan in the wake of a Western Disturbance up in the hills of North India was the reason behind the rain in Barmer. Moreover, strong southerly and southwesterly winds are feeding moisture to Rajasthan.

These combined weather phenomena are responsible for these moderate to heavy rains over Rajasthan. We further expect Barmer, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur and Bikaner as well as parts of Jalore to receive good rains and thundershowers until tomorrow.

Thereafter, the Western Disturbance, as well as the induced Cyclonic Circulation, will move away. Also, the moisture feed from the Arabian Sea will also fade away as the winds will start blowing from the West.

The weather of Rajasthan will start clearing up from November 16. The day temperatures which have dropped will rise once again. Minimums will drop by two to three degrees from November 16 and 17 onward due to the commencement of icy cold winds from North.
