Coldest March for Delhi in last 5 years

March 18, 2019 3:16 PM |

Delhi pleasant weather

March is a transitional month, wherein winters recede, and Pre-Monsoon heat starts to set in. This is a gradual change, as some disruptions in the form of Western Disturbances that approach the Western Himalayas, give rain and thundershowers over the region, leading to pleasant weather conditions.

Generally, the change in both day and night temperatures from February to March is significant with a jump of about 5˚C from their normal average temperatures.

Talking about Delhi’s Safdarjung Observatory, its normal average maximum temperature in February is 23.9˚C and March is 29.6˚C. Similarly, the normal average minimum temperature in February is 10.4˚C and March is 15.6˚C.

This year, due to the continuous effect of Western Disturbances and their induced cyclonic circulations, the weather conditions are a bit different over Delhi in the month of March. Pleasant warm weather is persisting during the day, followed by little wintery touch during the late evening and early morning hours.

Normally, by this time of the year, the minimums of Delhi-NCR are between 14˚C and 15˚C. Similarly, by the third week of March, the maximums over the region also touch 30˚C. But so far, we haven’t observed much rise in the day temperatures.

Lets us have a look at the monthly normal average temperatures for the month of March for the last 5 years:

Coldest March for Delhi in last 5 years

Thus, looking at the above table, we can say that since the last three consecutive years, in the month of March, Delhi is observing much warm weather conditions as compared to this year. Last time, wherein the National Capital Region observed similar weather conditions was in 2015.

Further, in the wake of a fresh Western Disturbance approaching the Western Himalayas, Delhi and its adjoining areas will witness rain and thundershower activities due to which, pleasant weather conditions will continue in Delhi for the coming days as well. However, we expect day temperatures of Delhi to rise and touch 30˚C.
