Key Takeaways:

  • Delhi may witness dust storm and thunderstorm activity between June 4 and June 6.
  • Safdarjung recorded a maximum temperature of 39.1°C yesterday.
  • Day temperature may breach 40°C today before thunderstorm activity develops.
  • Strong gusty winds and pre-monsoon showers are likely during late afternoon and evening hours.

As on the previous day, there was no weather activity over and around Delhi yesterday. Consequently, the day temperature rose further to reach close to normal. Base station Safdarjung recorded a maximum temperature of 39.1°C yesterday, still below normal by about 1°C. Weather activity is expected today, later in the day. By then, the temperature will rise to about 41°C, nearly 1°-2°C above the pentad average.

The western disturbance over the hills and a cyclonic circulation over the plains of North India will pool together and trigger dust storm/thunderstorm activity over the region. Delhi and its suburbs will witness this activity for the next three days, between 04th and 06th June. The remnant effect may last till Sunday, 07th June. The intensity and spread of weather activity will be more tomorrow. Typical pre-monsoon showers and strong gusty winds are likely to accompany the dust-kicking thunderstorm, more pronounced during the late afternoon and evening hours. Broad clearance will follow from Monday onwards.

The day temperature will rise sharply today and breach 40°C around noon hours and may rise further by 1°C during the afternoon. Breeze is going to be light and from the northeast direction, favouring an increase in temperatures. A drop in day temperature by about 2°C is likely tomorrow and conditions will remain pleasant till the weekend. The mercury is expected to rise more significantly next week.
