Gujarat Unlikely To Witness Wintry Cold Conditions This Week: Pleasant Weather Likely
Key Takeaways
- Gujarat remains largely shielded from intense cold affecting north India.
- Single-digit temperatures are rare and limited to isolated pockets like Naliya.
- Western disturbances have disrupted cold wind flow into the state.
- Pleasant nights and mild daytime temperatures will prevail statewide.
The state of Gujarat is largely a fair-weather region and remains somewhat removed from the direct impact of intense cold conditions affecting the northern plains of the country. Thick fog, as witnessed across northern, eastern, and central parts of India, usually stays away from most parts of the state. Sea fog, however, does occasionally travel along coastal stations. As a result, extreme cold conditions over Gujarat are rare and short-lived, especially across interior regions.
During the peak winter phase over North India, the chill does reach parts of Gujarat, more so over the interiors of central and north Gujarat. Minimum temperatures do dip into single digits, albeit briefly, over areas adjoining Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. Last year, parts of Saurashtra and Kutch, central Gujarat—including Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad—and northern interiors such as Deesa, Patan, Mehsana, and Palanpur recorded single-digit minimum temperatures.
This year, the coastal town of Naliya has been the lone exception, registering single-digit temperatures. The station has recorded minimum temperatures below 10°C for the last three consecutive days, repeating a similar episode observed during mid-December 2025.
A pair of western disturbances moved across the northern mountains, resulting in snowfall at a few places. This is expected to intensify cold conditions over large parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Rajasthan. However, due to these westerly systems, the seasonal anticyclone has shifted from Rajasthan towards central India. Consequently, wind patterns over Gujarat have been disrupted, arresting the southward sweep of cold air from the northern plains.
The entire state, including the vulnerable central and northern regions, will remain shielded from chilly winds. With ample sunshine, daytime temperatures will stay comfortably warm, while night temperatures are likely to remain in the low teens. Pleasantly cold nights are expected across the state.
Isolated stations such as Naliya, Lakhpat, and Bhuj in Kutch district may continue to observe minimum temperatures below 10°C. Cities including Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Vadodara, Anand, Morbi, Surendranagar, Deesa, Patan, Mehsana, and Palanpur are likely to record minimum temperatures between 12°C and 13°C. Coastal stations such as Jamnagar, Okha, Porbandar, Dwarka, Somnath, Veraval, Mahuva, Bhavnagar, and Kandla are expected to remain in the mid- to high-teens, ranging between 15°C and 17°C.
No adverse weather is expected over Gujarat during the next one week.
