As temperatures rise across Northwest, Central, and Eastern parts of India, the winter season gradually fades, making way for the spring season. This transition typically brings warmer weather around the time of Holi, the festival of colours. However, the year 2025 seems to be an exception, as many cities across the country may witness rain during the festivities, a rare occurrence in the northern plains during this time.

A fresh Western disturbance is expected to approach the Western Himalayas by March 10, accompanied by an induced cyclonic circulation over Central Pakistan and Northwest Rajasthan. This weather system is likely to bring light to moderate rain and snowfall to the Western Himalayan region from March 10 to March 15 or 16, with varying intensity.

The impact of this disturbance will extend to the northern plains, where rainfall is usually scarce during Holi. Isolated light rain is predicted over parts of Punjab and North Haryana on March 12. By March 13 and 14, the intensity of rainfall is expected to increase, with light to moderate rain likely over many parts of Punjab, Haryana, and Northwest Uttar Pradesh. Cities like Delhi and western districts of Uttar Pradesh may also experience light scattered rain during this period.

The spread of rain is expected to increase further, covering many parts of Rajasthan, including Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Jaipur, Ajmer, Dausa, Karauli, Alwar, and Bharatpur. Additionally, isolated rain may occur over North Madhya Pradesh on March 14 and 15. Several districts of Uttar Pradesh, such as Bareilly, Muradabad, Rampur, Bahraich, Bulandshahar, Shahjahanpur, Agra, Mathura, Aligarh, and Hathras, may also witness light rain.

Delhi, too, is likely to experience light rain between March 13 and 15. Meanwhile, Northeast India may see light to moderate rain on the eve of Holi. In the southern region, isolated light rain is possible over Kerala on March 13 and 14, while the rest of the country is expected to remain dry and warm.

This year, Holi celebrations will be marked by contrasting weather patterns across the country. While some regions will revel in the traditional warmth of the festival, others may experience the rare delight of rain, adding a unique twist to the festivities.
