Mercury Levels Drop In Delhi, Dry Weather Till Mid-February Likely
Feb 6, 2025, 12:30 PM | Skymet Weather TeamOn the expected line, the night temperatures have dropped significantly over Delhi. The base station at Safdarjung recorded a low of 8.2°C, a drop of nearly 3°C, since yesterday. The mercury has plunged to a single digit after registering double-digit minimums for the last 5 days in a row. The single-digit minimum temperature is likely for the next 2-3 days and will rise thereafter.
Western disturbance has exited from the mountains. There has been scattered snowfall in the mid and higher reaches of Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. Manali, Kufri, Narkanda and Keylong Valley received a fresh spell of moderate snowfall. In the wake of the system, as it usually happens, the temperatures have dropped over the plains, including Delhi/NCR. Some pockets in Rajasthan have dipped below 5°C.
After the passage of the western disturbance, due to temperature differential, cold northwesterly winds have picked up speed. Strong surfaces are likely over the Delhi region on the 6th, 7th and 8th of Feb. These winds will increase the chill factor and drop the feel-like temperature in the morning hours. Following the likely arrival of a fresh western disturbance in the late hours of 08th Feb, the temperatures will rise once again, and the wind speed is expected to drop between 08th and 10th Feb.
The western disturbance will influence weather conditions, limited to the hills. Delhi/NCR will observe dry weather conditions, at least till mid-Feb. Surface and low-level winds are forecast to become stronger after 10th Feb and remain so till past the middle of the month. This feature also points towards the impending change of season. Days are expected to become warmer with mercury rising to the mid-20s. The minimum temperatures will also show an upward trend during the second half of February.
