The state of Kerala has been among the best performers during this Monsoon season and at present is rain surplus by 23%. Whereas, Karnataka is receiving near normal rains and is deficient by only 6%.
However, during the last 24 hours, moderate to heavy rainfall activity was observed over the state of Kerala. In fact, as of today Punalur is the rainiest place of India, as it recorded heavy rain to the tune of 83 mm.
In Karnataka few districts received moderate to heavy showers, such as Hassan with 76 mm and Dharwad with 31 mm of rain. Whereas most other places witnessed light to moderate rainfall activity.
In the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Friday, Alappuzha recorded 35 mm of rain, followed by Kottayam 33 mm, Belagavi 26 mm, Agumbe 15 mm, Madikeri 14 mm, Kochi 12 mmm, Vijayapur 10 mm and Mysuru 6 mm.
Now a cyclonic circulation is seen over Coastal Sri Lanka and its adjoining areas. A trough is also running from this system up to Central Maharashtra Coast. This system is likely to slope gradually over the southern tips of Tamil Nadu.
Due to all these weather systems, we expect moderate to heavy to continue over the state of Kerala. Rain intensity is likely to be more over the southern districts, where as only light rains will occur over the northern parts.
Coastal parts of Karnataka along with few western parts will witness good rains. Meanwhile light rainfall is likely over the eastern parts of the state.
