Key Takeaways:

  • Cyclone Murasu has weakened into a low-pressure area over eastern Telangana and adjoining Andhra Pradesh, with its circulation expected to dissipate gradually.
  • Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Odisha and Chhattisgarh are likely to receive scattered light to moderate rain and thundershowers until November 8.
  • Despite rainfall from Cyclones Arnab and Murasu, Rayalaseema and Telangana continue to experience significant seasonal rainfall deficits.
  • Weather conditions are expected to improve from November 9, with largely clear skies through November 15 across the four states.
  • Forecast Validity: November 5–15, 2026

The remnant of cyclonic storm ‘Murasu’ is lying as a low-pressure area over eastern parts of Telangana and the adjoining region of Andhra Pradesh. The cyclonic circulation extends up to 10,000 feet and is likely to fade gradually over the same region. The low-pressure area will not drift much and is expected to fill up over the same area. Light to moderate rains are likely over the region for about the next four days, with clearance thereafter.

The coastline of Andhra Pradesh was struck by two cyclones in quick succession. Tropical storms ‘Arnab’ and ‘Murasu’ made landfall on 28th October 2026 and 3rd November 2026, respectively. Arnab crossed the coast near Narsapur, and Murasu struck near Ongole. The impact was felt all along the coastlines of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. Also, the interiors of Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Chhattisgarh and Telangana were hit with varying intensity. The state of Tamil Nadu got a decent share of rainfall and recovered its seasonal shortfall. The state of Chhattisgarh and the subdivision of Coastal Andhra Pradesh received moderate and heavy rainfall, respectively. Both these pockets managed to achieve normal rainfall for the season. However, the interiors of Andhra Pradesh (Rayalaseema) and the state of Telangana continue to be highly deficient. Despite the rainy spell over the next few days, the deficiency will continue.

Under the influence of the remnant low-pressure area, four states are likely to have scattered showers. These include Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Odisha and Chhattisgarh. The entire state of Andhra Pradesh, including Rayalaseema, and contiguous parts of Odisha, Chhattisgarh and Telangana will receive scattered rain and thundershowers today. The rains will not be very heavy. Tomorrow, the intensity and spread will reduce over other parts, except Andhra Pradesh. The rains will vacate most other parts, except Andhra Pradesh, from 7th November onwards. The activity will reduce on the next day, 8th November. A broad clearance will occur across all these parts from 9th November onwards, and good weather conditions will prevail for the subsequent week, between 9th and 15th November 2026. Monsoon activity will remain confined to the states of Tamil Nadu and Kerala during this period.
