Monsoon 2022 performance for Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata

Southwest Monsoon has officially come to an end with 106 per cent of the LPA. As far as the four metros of Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Chennai are concerned, they have seen different Monsoon performances.

Kolkata has recorded poor Monsoon with a seasonal deficiency of 32 percent. East India has as it is seen deficient rains through the Monsoon season. Recovery was there in the last leg for the city of Kolkata. While Monsoon has withdrawn from northwestern parts, Kolkata continues to see Monsoon rains and it is only during the third week of October that Monsoon actually withdraws from the region.

Talking about Delhi, June saw less rains whereas July observed decent showers. However, the month of August observed an 80 percent deficiency. However, September caught up with rains with Delhi seeing 17 percent deficiency this Monsoon season which is in the normal category. Now, Monsoon has withdrawn from Delhi. However, after next couple of days, rains can be expected.

Mumbai also saw a see saw of weather conditions. July observed excess rains while August was little below normal. September did not have the typical Mumbai rains, but crossed monthly rains. After the official end of Monsoon, Mumbai is at 8 percent deficit. As far as the outlook is concerned, Mumbai may see some rains during the next couple of days.

Chennai does not see rains in the Southwest Monsoon season and most of its annual rains are observed during the Northeast Monsoon season. However, this season has been a good one. The state of Tamil Nadu this time as a state saw excess rains, and other parts saw normal rains. Chennai has been one of the regions including normal rains and is at 0 percent. Light to moderate rains may be seen in the next 2-3 days
