Monsoon to become active over Uttar Pradesh and Bihar from July 28

Uttar Pradesh and Bihar witnessed a long dry spell in the month of July. The weather was almost dry until July 19. Scattered rain commenced over both states from July 20. Light rain with few moderate spells may continue over these states until July 27.

Axis of monsoon trough is now passing through Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh. Monsoon trough will start moving north from July 26 or 27 and will be over Indo Gangetic Plains by July 28. Rain activities will also intensify over Uttar Pradesh and Bihar on July 28 and may continue with good intensity for at least next 3 to 4 days.

Recent rains have failed to cover up the rain deficit of both the states. However, they have certainly helped the farmers in sowing the crops. Moreover, these rains have given a new lease of life to the crops which were on the verge of collapse. Weather of these states will not go completely dry and light to moderate rain may continue.

Between June 1 and July 23 Uttar Pradesh is deficient by 59%, west Uttar Pradesh by 49% and Bihar is deficient by 45%.
