Respite For Gujarat, Heavy Rains Recede Till July End

July 25, 2022 7:08 PM | Skymet Weather Team

The state of Gujarat will soon be spared from the excruciating wet spell for good about 10 days or even more. Moderate showers are still expected over some parts of north and central Gujarat for the next 48 hours and soften thereafter. The entire state is expected to have a breather from 27th July onward and extend to the 1st week of August. However, cloudy skies with light rain in many places will continue, restricting the heat factor over most parts.

Low pressure area is marked over South Rajasthan and adjoining area. An east west trough is running across this system, in the close proximity of North and Central Gujarat. These 2 features still have the potential to lash these parts with scattered rain and thundershowers for the next 2 days and withdraw thereafter. Isolated places still stand a chance to have moderate to heavy showers, albeit lasting for shorter durations.

Most places over North and Central Gujarat will be at risk of having intense showers. Likely susceptible locations are : Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Deesa, Patan, Palanpur, Mehsana, Himmatnagar, Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Kheda, Godhra, Dahod, Aravali and Mahisagar.  Significant improvement will be witnessed even over these parts after 48hr. The entire state will rejoice from the intense and torrential rains experienced on many occasions in the month of July.

Both the sub divisions of the state are having surplus rainfall. Gujarat is having excess of 51% and Saurashtra & Kutch has large excess of 76% rainfall. This is despite the fact that rains were far and few in June. Monsoon had arrived late and also got stalled for 2 weeks. The loss has since been made up and the state has as whole as 61% surplus. All the districts of the state, barring 3, have normal or excess or large excess between 01st June to 24thJuly.
