Thunder, lightning and rains take over Mumbai, more rains to follow

Mumbai city has been receiving on and off rains since last night. Good rains were recorded between 5:30 am to 6:30 am in many parts of the city. These rains were also accompanied with thunder and lightning at a few areas.

The Mumbai-Pune Expressway even managed to record heavy downpour.

Going by the available data, a few parts of Mumbai and suburbs such as Borivali and adjoining areas have received intense showers. While Mumbai has received 30 mm of rains in the last 24 hours, with 27 mm in just a span of 3 hours in the morning. Colaba observatory has recorded a whopping 67 mm of rains till now.

According to the meteorologists, the Monsoon surge has once again activated over Konkan and Goa including Mumbai city as a Cyclonic Circulation has developed over South Gujarat. Now, we expect these rains to further increase over the city.

Skymet has also issued an alert against more rains ahead:

The rain intensity is expected to increase today and tomorrow. A few moderate showers are likely over the region. Also, one or two isolated intense spells cannot be ruled out.

A few low-lying areas might face some difficulties in terms of waterlogging and traffic disruptions.

As a relief, on and off rains and cloudy skies are here to bring a relief from sultry weather over Mumbai for at least until tomorrow. Following this, the rain intensity is expected to go down. Isolated patchy rains may follow thereafter as well.

Previously, Mumbai has received heavy rains on September 19 and 21. Since then only light isolated rains were going on over the city.
