Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, North Rajasthan and West Uttar Pradesh together make the northwestern plains of India. This entire region witnesses extended pre-Monsoon weather activities as Southwest Monsoon marks its onset over these states around end of June.

In fact, the second half of May is also considered to be the peak time for the region during the pre-Monsoon season. The reason for this is that it coincides with the advent of Southwest Monsoon.

After a dry spell for three days, during the last 24 hours, pre-Monsoon weather activities in the form of dust storm and light precipitation occurred over many parts of Rajasthan followed by foothills of Punjab, Haryana and thundery activity in Delhi and NCR.

Now during the coming three days i.e. from May 22 to May 25, pre-Monsoon weather activities such as dust storm, thunderstorm, rain, thundershowers with lightning in isolated pockets will occur in many parts of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, North Rajasthan and West Uttar Pradesh.

In the wake of these rains, temperatures over most places in these states will drop and settle below normal leading to comfortable weather conditions. However, further from May 25, rains will start vacating the region and temperatures will starts rising once again.

At present, Pan India is rain deficient by 23%, but Northwest India has witnessed good rains and almost all parts are observing excess or near normal rainfall activity, except West Uttar Pradesh which is 30% rain deficient.

Meanwhile, Rajasthan has witnessed exceptionally good rains till now. Punjab and Haryana are also not behind, and both the states are experiencing near normal rains.
