Rain in North India to continue; pre-monsoon showers to pick up again on Friday

April 16, 2014 2:21 PM |

The cyclonic circulation over east Rajasthan has already given some rain over the hills of Jammu & Kashmir and in the plains, over Punjab, Rajasthan and Haryana in the last 24 hours. The latest weather update by Skymet Meteorology Division in India indicates that the ongoing spell of rain will continue in these parts for the next two to three days with variation in rainfall on alternate days. Friday could be the day when maximum amount of rain could be observed in the northwest plains.

Weather in North India will be rainy and cloudy as the present cyclonic circulation over east Rajasthan will be followed up by another cyclonic circulation, which Skymet satellite images locate at central Pakistan and adjoining areas of west Rajasthan. This system will be working in tandem with a Western Disturbance that lies over north Pakistan and adjoining areas at the moment and is moving east-northeastwards.

Wind discontinuity (confrontation of warm and moist winds) is the reason behind rain in Central and South India during this time of the year. According to Skymet, a wind discontinuity currently extends from Central India to extreme southern peninsula and is expected to be instrumental in giving pre-monsoon showers in Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu in the next 48 hours.

Pre-monsoon rain will again pick up in these parts along with Odisha and Chhattisgarh in east central India from Friday as the discontinuity will shift eastward. Due to similar wind friction, Pendra and Raipur in Chhattisgarh recorded some rain in the last 24 hours.

Some parts of south interior Karantaka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu also recorded pre-monsoon showers in the last 24 hours. And the latest weather update indicates gradual increase in rain in these parts for the next two days. However, the weather in South India will remain hot and humid during this period.
