Most parts of the country to observe rain on the auspicious occasion of Eid

July 28, 2014 2:46 PM |

After the dry spell of three days from 25th to 27th July, rain has picked up across most parts of the country. With a whopping 143 mm of rain on Sunday, Monsoon revived in Mumbai and Delhiites also observed some rain after a lull of 10 days. As the holy month of Ramadan draws to a close on Tuesday, Muslims in India will celebrate Eid with good Monsoon rain in most parts of the country.

Rain in Central India

The cyclonic circulation built up in the Bay of Bengal developed into a low pressure area on Sunday over Odisha and adjoining West Bengal. The system is likely to move in westward direction across the states of Central India.

The system will bring good to heavy showers in southern parts of Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. The rain belt will extend up to Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and finally reach Gujarat and south Rajasthan.

Rain in South India

Good showers are likely along the west coast as well, particularly in Konkan & Goa. Tamil Nadu, which has been largely dry, has also been receiving some rain. In the last 24 hours, Chennai received 3 mm of rain.

Rain in North India

According to the latest weather update by Skymet Meteorology Division in India, scattered rain and thundershowers will continue across North India, in the states of Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana. Delhi/NCR will also continue to receive rain for two days. However, hilly states will receive more showers than the plains and this spell of rain will not be enough to influence the national cumulative rain deficit, which has been stagnant at 25% since last couple of days. Good rain is in the offing for Northeast India as well.
