Global Warming assures Europe to turn into desert in 100 years

Europe Desert 1

It is no news that Global Warming has insurmountable repercussion that we as humans should stop as soon as possible. The Mediterranean region is one such example of sheer mishap. In the last 10000 years the region never experienced such severe droughts and heatwave that it is facing now. In fact if the trend is continued for next 100 years, many area of Europe will turn into a desert.

Since the late 19th century the average temperature of the Mediterranean has already risen by 1.3 degree Celsius and the global temperature has risen by 0.85 degree Celsius.

The researchers at the journal Science said, “Man-made climate change will likely alter ecosystems in the Mediterranean in a way that is without precedent” in the past 10,000 years unless governments quickly reduce greenhouse gas emissions.”

If remained unchecked, the estimation of such desert area in Europe would expand up to Southern Spain and Portugal. Northern Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia and regions like Sicily in Italy, southern Turkey and parts of Syria will become a desert in less than a century.

The region is also sensitive due to the trends of changing the Atlantic storms. These storm are moving in north direction resulting more sun shine over the region and less rain.

A study in the US journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences in 2015 said that there was a direct involvement of man-made climate change that aggravated the drought of 2007-10 in Syria that was a contributing factor to the civil war.
